To me a cemetery is a beautiful and peaceful place to wander. The painting reminds me of of visiting a cemetery at night.
Some of the photos I used in this painting were taken at multiple cemeteries in New Orleans.
There is also a photo I took of a deer who lives at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Salt Lake City.

About two years ago I started this painting. Not really liking the way it was going, I put it aside.
Recently I came across it one evening and decided to see where it might take me.
I began a back and forth rhythm of painting and drawing. After a few hours I became tired and went to bed.
The next morning I walked into my studio and there he was! A beautiful image of an ascending spirit with his robes flowing!!

This painting was inspired by a camping trip I took, with friends and family at Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area.
The gorge gets it's name from the way the sun catches the red canyon walls. Which is an absolutely breathtaking site to see!!
